To Heal or Not to Heal
by Vic Rakhshani
Healing is a highly misunderstood process. Most people think when pain or illness ends that they are healed, however, this is far from true. The objective of this brief overview is to help athletes and people understand healing and how one can know if they've properly healed. To best understand healing, one must comprehend what health is and how health works within the human body.
Two Dimensions of Health
Sports and injury are common but many sport injuries become repetitive injuries. This also applies to illnesses. For example, seasonal illnesses that come and go but always return in specific seasons are signals of deeper internal weaknesses that are yet to be properly addressed. Follow the story line of sports injuries and seasonal illnesses that are never properly addressed, and you will see that they always get worse with time. These kinds of issues, if not completely addressed, almost always grow into chronic problems that evolve into diseases. These are nothing more than Chronic preventable aging disease.
Healing is a These are repetitive problems that come and go but always return. As the years add up, these repetitive problems become more complex, stubborn and debilitating. This means that the pain goes away and then it returns. Another example is the More, people who suffer pain that goes away and returns It's important to define what a true healing and regenerative modality agent. that promises sustainable pain free health.
Forty years ago, Age Lab founder, Vic Rakhshani, began his own journey in functional regenerative healing.
In 1983, after a career ending neck injury, Rakhshani retired from professional football with a need to find a solution for his debilitating pain and neurological injuries, Rakhshani's work turned into decades of pioneering research analyzing medicine, human performance, aging, stem cell research and all the rehabilitative branches in the world. To his surprise, he realized that medicine and the alternative therapy models had no conclusive science for tissue regeneration and how the human body's self-healing mechanisms work and malfunction.
Driven to understand self-healing and tissue regeneration Rakhshani began testing new theories and concepts for how trauma and stress alters the body's biological healing processes as well as stem cell production and deployment. Through this process, Rakhshani became one of the original developers in core training, functional movement, sport performance and speed training, while he continued to pioneer new concepts and ideas for improving microcirculation and hands-on touch. Through this time, he built a nationwide resume helping thousands of elite athletes in all major professional sports and top universities throughout the country. Scott Brooks, the 2010, NBA coach of the year, said this about Rakhshani, "Vic's system for training athletes and optimizing recovery is one of the best I've ever seen."
As his research and success evolved, Rakhshani would soon prove that many surgeries for athletic injuries were no longer necessary. That the human body's natural self-healing processes could be enhanced through exercise, diet and even more so by new and better applications of hands-on touch. However, Rakhshani still had no clear scientific basis on self-healing and tissue regeneration but his ideas in neurovascular based therapies were having tremendous impact on the athletes he worked with. The greater problem was simple, without a scientific explanation for how the mechanisms of self-healing actually work there is no way to predictably stop wear and tear breakdown, let alone, musculoskeletal diseases. There were still too many missing pieces.
By 2015, his breakthrough idea about musculoskeletal "structural-functions" verses musculoskeletal "organ-functions" completely changed all of his soft tissue data research, This dramatic shift in thinking redirected 3 decades of innovating new hand's on treatment strategies as well as his soft tissue algorithmic data. Finally, Rakhshani had a clear basis for defining and identifying inflammation on much deeper atomic levels within the organ-functions of the musculoskeletal system. Finally, he had a scientific explanation to understand what he had observed for decades but could not define-- three foundational tissue markers for the origins of inflammation, pain, and, wear and tear micro-pathology. Furthermore, it proved his long held theory that wear and tear is actually a simple aging syndrome.
Rakhshani finally had what he was looking for all along-- a clear scientific basis to explain the real drivers of inflammation, pain and wear and tear deep within the body's involuntary organ functions. Why was this so essential? According to Rakhshani, this solves the mystery of how the self-healing mechanisms actually work and its hierarchy of functions. This meant, that musculoskeletal disease (such as arthritis) and the epic global battle with chronic pain can now be solved.
Soon thereafter, Rakhshani formed medical relationships to confirm his findings. From there he created a platform to further validate his scientific processes as a natural, stem cell based therapy model. In his work and research, his therapeutic model of Functional Tissue Regeneration has also been beta-tested alongside stem cell therapies, Not only does FTR dramatically improve stem cell therapy for the most advanced disease conditions most of the time, stem cell therapy injections are no longer needed as FTR makes tissue regeneration a much more affordable process.
Today, Age Lab brings fresh, innovative insights and practical tools to address the long standing challenges and misunderstandings around complex athletic injuries, chronic pain, disease conditions as well as isolated stem cell therapies. Age Lab's commitment to collaboration and educating health care professionals is built on Rakhshani's desire to build the proper bridges towards health care reform so that millions of chronic pain sufferers will one day get the real care they need for sustainable pain free living!
In the last 20 years regenerative medicine has established itself as a massive global movement. Many advancements in stem cell research have set the course to replace the current models of managing pain and many diseases. This is a positive step that pushes medicine forward. However, stem cell therapies for chronic pain are still experimental and have struggled to prove its viability and real-world value. While there are many of who have benefited from stem cell injections, including myself, there are still many stem cell failures when as a true healing and regenerative modality.
